Wincanton extends AvantiGas relationship

Press releases | 10 May 2018

Wincanton, the largest British logistics provider, has won a new five-year contract with leading LPG supplier AvantiGas. The agreement will extend their strong relationship through to 2023 – a relationship which began 12 years ago. Wincanton’s flexible approach and commitment to innovation were cited as the key reasons for the renewal by AvantiGas. The contract is to transport LPG and aerosol propellants to large commercial customers and to supplement the AvantiGas fleet for domestic deliveries at times of peak demand.

It will see Wincanton employ more than fifty drivers, with built-in flexibility allowing AvantiGas to be flexible with their resources, depending on seasonal requirements and changes in prevailing weather conditions.

AvantiGas employ their own in-house driving team to manage regular and summer season domestic demand. However, having access to an appropriately-skilled set of support drivers at key times is invaluable. The partnership with Wincanton enhances their ability to respond to expected and unforeseen demand spikes, reducing the possible impact on their customers.

In line with its commitment to helping clients stay ahead of the innovation challenge presented by the increasing digitalisation of the supply chain, Wincanton has undertaken a series of innovation sessions, to provide the client with an understanding of best practice in other sectors.

Wincanton is committed to fitting the fleet with MiX telematics, a system which it is using across all new fleets, giving AvantiGas advanced driver safety features that will lead to higher driver safety performance and greater levels of fuel efficiency. The package is an end-to-end solution designed to give fleet operators the tools they need to sustain a high-performing operation – one that’s operating at optimum levels of efficiency and safety. The solution comprises an on-board computer, an online tracking and information portal as well as access to valuable fleet and driver reports and analytics.

Jonathan Shortis, Director of Energy at Wincanton, said:

“The key to this contract is scalability. The ability to augment their core retained driving team with highly trained and safety-conscious support provides maximum flexibility for AvantiGas.”

Andrew Cauldwell, Logistics Manager at AvantiGas, added:

“Safety considerations and the ability to respond quickly to demand are crucial to a company like ours, so choosing a supplier that appreciates this is critical. We pride ourselves on finding innovative ways to improve our distribution resilience and customer service and our Wincanton partnership is a key element of this.

“Wincanton’s flexible approach and commitment to innovation in the contract are what attracted us, again, to their bid.”
