Wincanton, the largest British logistics company, has upgraded its fleet with investment in 100 Mercedes-Benz Actros tractor units featuring the latest, cutting-edge safety technology. This order follows the acquisition of 100 Mercedes vehicles in January 2017.
The Actros will provide Wincanton’s clients in the container industry with a dependable and efficient fleet.
With a focus on fuel economy and safety, the new fleet of vehicles combines 330 kW (450 hp) six-cylinder engines and Predictive Powertrain Control systems with the latest Mercedes-Benz Safety Pack on each truck.
The Safety Pack incorporates pioneering Active Brake Assist 4 and Proximity Control Assist technology, as well as a driver’s airbag.
Chris Fenton, Managing Director, Industrial and Transport at Wincanton explained:
“Given the extra equipment we have specified, these Actros tractor units are among the safest trucks available, and will help to protect other road users as well as our own drivers.
“Their spacious, flat-floored cabs, which we fit with fridges and microwave ovens, provide a comfortable working and living space for our drivers. We also know from experience that Actros tractors are highly fuel-efficient and extremely cost-effective to run.
“This investment is further commitment to providing equipment which is as safe and comfortable as possible for our drivers, who are the very backbone of our business.”
Wincanton’s Group Fleet Director Carl Hanson added:
“This latest order demonstrates our ongoing relationship with Mercedes-Benz Trucks and its Dealers, particularly Orwell Truck & Van. The manufacturer and its franchisee have both taken the time to understand our business, and provide the vehicles and support we need to operate with maximum efficiency.”
