At Wincanton, our mission is to deliver a reliable, flexible, responsive service when it comes to container logistics. Our 500+ vehicle fleet makes around 1,200 container movements per day across the United Kingdom - that’s over 400,000 container movements per year!
Our experience within the container logistics market means we know how to provide our customers with flexible and agile port to DC solutions whilst maintaining cost efficiency and sustainability.
An example of this is our recent move to a new base at the Port of Southampton, where we have invested in new equipment, supported by extra rail capacity.
With its proximity to the Midlands and South-West, and being the UK’s second largest freight terminal, the Port of Southampton will be a key base for us to expand from in 2016. This allows us to be more flexible and respond more quickly to the demands of our customers.
Sustainability is a key focus for us as our customers are increasingly looking to reduce their impact on the environment. The move at Southampton has also made it possible to move more freight by rail, which produces fewer carbon emissions than when the same distance is travelled using the road network.
In addition to this, we have our own rail link, operated by DB Cargo UK, which connects Southampton with the Midlands five days a week. This complements our Felixstowe rail services, giving additional and reliable capability on the national Wincanton rail network.
As well as the new location for handling the movement of shipping containers, we have increased capabilities in Southampton, investing in additional tail-lift skeletal trailers to broaden the range of added value services on offer to our customers. This fleet of tail lift skeletal trailers allows us to deliver without the need for dock levellers or loading bays. This also means containers can be reloaded for efficient bulk delivery.
Freight forwarders, end users and shipping lines can benefit from our expertise and our investment into our container logistics offering, in addition to benefitting from rapid turnaround times and robust deliveries to meet key KPIs. Further container capabilities include:
As the largest logistics company in the UK and Ireland, we have successfully grown by being experts in the sectors in which we operate. We do this this through building close, mutually beneficial customer relationships; by working together to suit customers’ specific requirements, driving efficiency and lower costs.
