Public sector

Secure, reliable logistics services

Wincanton has proven expertise working with the public sector through our records management and defence logistics offerings. Across the wider supply chain we are now working with Government organisations in areas such as secure logistics operations and large-scale infrastructure projects. We have entered a joint venture with Serco to provide secure custodial transport services and our construction logistics team have a national fleet ready to provide integration services across the UK.

Serco Wincanton: secure custodial transport

Wincanton has committed to a long-term joint venture with Serco to provide secure logistics services. The relationship combines Serco’s long standing expertise within the criminal justice system and Wincanton’s proven track record in specialist logistics, to bring innovation and significant cost savings to secure logistics opportunity across Civil Government. Serco Wincanton, the secure logistics joint venture, has secured a seven year contract with the UK Government’s Ministry of Justice to provide Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) between HM prisons, police stations and the courts in London and the East of England, including many of the high profile Courts such as The Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey).

Wincanton supports Serco by providing specialist input to managing and maintaining the fleet of 200 secure vehicles, scheduling daily activity, vehicle tracking, driver training as well as providing vehicle operating bases.

Public Sector logistics services

In addition to the work being conducted through the joint venture, Wincanton is progressing a number of significant strategic opportunities across the Public Sector, most notably in the defence and the utilities markets. Wincanton’s core expertise, coupled with a well developed appreciation of the challenges of these markets, allows us develop innovative solutions that deliver real savings to the tax payer and drive efficiencies through their logistics requirements.
