Wincanton strengthens Chevron relationship with marine contract and extension to lubricants work
A pair of three-year contracts to support Chevron Marine and Chevron Lubricants
Wincanton, the UK’s leading supply chain solutions provider, has signed two separate contracts with different divisions of the US energy and manufacturing giant Chevron.
The first is a three-year contract with Chevron Marine to distribute bulk and packed lubricants nationwide to Chevron’s customers in the shipping industry.
Under the terms of the contract, Wincanton will be sent orders from Chevron’s global office network and fulfil those orders, acting as port liaison manager and shipping agent, managing stocks and overseeing barge management, as well as receiving packed imports from Belgium.
Wincanton will deliver bulk product from production plants in Leeds and packed product from a facility in Doncaster. The vehicles it uses are able to deliver the product directly to vessels using a fitted crane.
The second contract confirmed between Wincanton and Chevron is a three-year extension to an existing arrangement with Chevron Lubricants.
This is specialist work that sees Wincanton delivering lubricating oil nationwide, carrying over 7.4 million litres annually to fulfil 2,300 customer orders. It uses a bespoke vehicle fleet of ten-compartment, single-axle, rear-steer tank trailers – a design which has boosted capacity utilisation from 75 per cent to consistently over 95 per cent.
Wincanton has also supported Chevron in the development of a scheduling software application that predicts demand and efficiently combines industrial and marine orders to make best use of vehicle capacity.
Chris Kingshott, managing director, manufacturing at Wincanton, said: "The extension of our long-standing relationship with Chevron highlights our outstanding credibility in this sector and demonstrates Wincanton’s track record of operational excellence and continuous improvement."
He added: "The relationship with Chevron goes back to 1992. During this time, Chevron has moved to three different production facilities – Manchester, Stoke-on-Trent and Leeds - and with each move we have relocated our operation along with the customer."
