Corporate and social responsibility to our neighbours

Wincanton is committed to working with and engaging its regional, national and global communities. From teaching local school children about road safety through to actively getting involved in Transaid's work in Africa, we like to use our expertise to support and aid the world around us.
Supporting local communities
Wincanton’s work in the community is concentrated at a local level with site teams engaging with initiatives of their choice, such as charities, schools or local community projects, in order to share their expertise, raise funds and make a positive difference on an ongoing basis.
For example, our Northampton site has introduced 'road safety days' for local schools, in conjunction with the casualty reduction team, local police and fire services and the County Council. The children visit the depot for a day of road safety awareness activites and are each given high visibility vests to ensure their safety through the dark winter months. And in Lincolnshire we have sponsored the 2fast2soon road safety education programme for young drivers.
Fundraising for national charities
Sometimes we like to reach a bit further across our communities and support charities on a national scale. Within one of our home delivery contracts we ask our customers to feedback on their delivery experience and for every completed survey we donate money to the NSPCC in thanks. We actively support charity campaigns across all our 250 sites finding new and entertaining ways to raise funds and awareness.
Using our logistics experience to change lives
Our corporate charity is Transaid, an international charity that aims to reduce poverty and improve lives across Africa and the developing world, through creating better transport and infrastructural links. Recent projects include creating driver training centres in Zambia and Tanzinia to help raise standards and combat road deaths, and supporting the establishment of heathcare infrastructure in rural parts of Madagascar.
Our Transaid partnership is now in its seventh year. Through this time Wincanton has not only raised funds through the traditional methods of dress-down days, raffles and cake bakes, but has also got personally involved with even our Chief Executive cycling across Tanzania to raise awareness. We have also had numerous employee volunteers spending time in Africa sharing knowledge and expertise in areas such as driver training, health and safety auditing and transport planning.
