Serco Wincanton: secure custodial transport
Wincanton and Serco have joined together in a strategic partnership to provide secure logistics services. The joint venture combines Serco’s long standing expertise within the criminal justice system and Wincanton’s proven track record in specialist logistics.
Serco Wincanton will bring innovation and significant cost savings to secure logistics opportunities across Civil Government and has already secured a seven year contract with the UK Government’s Ministry of Justice. This contract will provide Prisoner Escort and Custody Services (PECS) between HM prisons, police stations and the courts in London and the East of England, including many of the high profile Courts such as The Royal Courts of Justice and the Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey).
Wincanton supports Serco by providing specialist input to managing and maintaining the fleet of 200 secure vehicles, scheduling daily activity, vehicle tracking, driver training as well as providing vehicle operating bases.
Genco: asset recovery solutions
With the growing pressure on costs comes the requirement to manage the total life cost of a product from sourcing to disposal. Releasing cash tied up in stock is on every retailer's agenda and efficiently managing returns, end-of-season ranges and made to order items helps this cash flow more smoothly.
Now that more and more goods are being produced in the Far East it is much more difficult to return the products to the manufacturer because of the distances involved. As a result retailers and manufacturers face problems of what to do with customer returned goods.
In response to this growing problem, Wincanton has formed a joint venture with the US reverse logistics specialist, Genco, to offer retailers and manufacturers a comprehensive asset recovery solution. Through this venture we are able to sell on unwanted stock including obsolete stock, surplus stock, seconds, faulty returns and refurbished items.
In addition, we are also able to offer a full reverse logistics package including software disposal, recycling, consultancy and project management.
